Spoke too soon

Looks like the fun isn't quite over yet. This most recent outage, which occured overnight for the most part, was unrelated to the prior outages. More details here.

Everything [hopefully] back to normal

It took a bit longer than I expected, but the database issues should be fixed now. I'm not too happy with the fact that the forums (and everything that relied on its database) were down for more than 24 hours, but hopefully this is the last time I see this problem as we've taken steps to prevent this from happening again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

MySQL/Forums Issue

I'm aware of the MySQL problems that the site is experiencing, and the forums are currently down as a result. I know why this is occuring so hopefully I can get this completely straightened out this time so that it won't happen again. I have notified my host of the problem and I'm currently waiting for a response. The forums should be up and running within a few hours if all goes well.

Minor site hiccup

The site was experiencing some issues with the MySQL database last night around 7:00pm PST. The issues were resolved within two hours but the forums were inaccessible during that time. Sorry for any inconvenience that may have caused.

On a different note, the old Hoss site has been converted and transferred over for those of you who are past or current Hoss members looking for a dose of nostalgia.

Some quick updates

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween. We didn't get a single trick-or-treater which was kind of odd - that's ok though, more candy for us.

The new forums are up and running well. The System Specs and Litestep sections aren't working yet. Those will likely be down for awhile still while I work on other things. The old Hoss site isn't up yet, but I'm working on getting it all converted over to the new design. That's not a very high priority either though, so don't expect it to be up really soon.

By the way I know some of you may be thinking, 'Boy this sure does look a lot like phpnuke or some other portal-powered site.' Let me tell you though, this is 100% coded/designed by hand, and W3C compliant to boot (as long as none of the headlines on the left are returning bad code, those are beyond my control).

If you can read this, you are now accessing the site from its new server. If you are also able to view the new design in all of its glory, great! That means you're using a relatively recent browser that supports web standards.

However, due to individual browser quirks beyond my control, I can't promise that the site will appear exactly as intended in all browsers - even though my code is W3C compliant. Non-IE browsers should render the page similar to what I've intended, but the best browsing experience is had with IE 5 or higher.

The Gecko-based browsers (Netscape 6+, Mozilla, Galeon, etc) are a close runner-up and are decent alternatives which exhibit only minor issues with my design. Opera 6 fudges a few things pretty badly, so don't use it unless you absolutely have to. IE 4 is extremely borderline, and if you're using Netscape 4.x/IE 3 or anything older - don't bother. Do us web developers a favor and upgrade if you're still using something that old.

At any rate, I hope you enjoy the new look (assuming it works for you). And don't forget to hit up the Forums.
